We design products for those who share a love of the outdoors; its ever-changing landscapes, natural textures, rich hues, percussive rain and luminous reflections. For those who seek a moment of calm every day, amidst the chaos.
On Good Authority is inspired by our relationship with nature, the environment and unpredictable weather cycles. Our collection is founded on three key principles:
STYLISH AND EASY TO WEAR
We design classic silhouettes with a modern twist. We don’t follow the trends, but we take elements that we love and translate them into quality garments that are easy to wear, stylish, and that last a lifetime. We've thought long and hard about what our end consumer wants, because we are the end consumer. Our jackets are built by women for women and every detail counts.
FULL WEATHER PROTECTION
Our jackets are fully waterproof, windproof and breathable. All of our jackets achieve a waterproof rating of 10,000HH and a breathability rating of 10,000GM and every seam is sealed with a waterproof tape preventing water leakage. We use PFC-free DWR on the surfaces to repel water and PTFE-free lamination to prevent saturation.
We know that the people making our garments work in a safe environment and are paid fairly. Our fabrics are made from recycled fibres as much as possible, requiring less water and energy in production, and emitting less carbon into the atmosphere. We are a vegan brand: no leather, no feathers, no fur.
On Good Authority began as an idea in 2016 at a particularly rainy Glastonbury festival. Relentless wet weather meant that co-founders Sara Lewis and Hannah Oliver spent the five-day event in their waterproof hiking jackets feeling frustrated at the compromise between style and practicality. They started speaking to their friends and realised it wasn’t just them that felt this way. With Sara’s background in performance apparel they realised that this was a problem that they could actually solve.
Sara has worked in the fashion industry for 15 years at major global brands where she has developed expertise producing technical, performance outerwear. Throughout her career, Sara has worked with some of the most innovative manufacturers and technical fabric mills in the world. With Hannah’s award-winning background in branding, communications and digital, it felt like a natural partnership. The idea of On Good Authority was born, and their passion project is now finally becoming a reality.
Concerned with the climate crisis, Sara and Hannah prioritised longevity and conservation when they started to lay down the plans for the brand back in 2016. Their first piece to launch is the Kimono, which is made from recycled waste plastics using non-toxic water repellency. Two new styles - the Field Jacket and Parka – will join the collection later this year.
